NZ's FLAG
Currently the Government is looking to change our flag. Currently our Flag has The Union Jack in the top left corner, showing we are an Commonwealth Country led by Britain. This is set on a Blue Background with 4 stars signifying the Southern Cross in the bottom right of the Flag.
1. What do you personally think of our Flag? Do you like it? Do you think it should change? Justify your answers.
2. Does it concern you that it is very similar to the Australian Flag?
3. If we were to change the Flag which flag do you believe we should have? Is it one of the 4 chosen designs or is it something else?
4. So far the cost of surveying the people of NZ and getting ideas chosen has cost approximately $28 million . Is this a sensible way to spend our money? Should it have been done differently? What do you think should have happened?
5. Will you and/or your family vote to save or change our flag?
6. Are you happy with the 4 chosen flags or do you think we should add the Red Pyramid Flag too.
7. If you could design a flag what are the main colours you want to see on the flag and what is the most important symbol you want to see on it?
8. What else would we have to change if we changed our flag? Research all the things our flag is displayed on that would need re-branding.
Once you have explored the information in detail and decided what you believe will be best for NZ< get an A4 piece of paper and draw the flag you want. Must be in fine, clear detail and to publication standard.
END OF YEAR ACTIVITY DAYS.
The first two days (Monday and Tuesday) of the last week of term 4, will be our Activity Days.
What would you like to do.?
One idea is to go to the Luge in Rotorua. This will cost $40 each for 5 rides and the bus.
Another idea is to go to to the Movies in Whakatane and then have a picnic lunch at the Heads before heading back to school. The movies and Bus would cost $25 each, and you'd bring lunch from home.
What ideas have you got for a) places to go?
b) fundraising ideas?
c) Do we go as a class, have 3 different things for the year 9 to choose to do each day, or all Year 9 go together to two things only?
Find ideas, prices, bus costs, research well and come back with a plan.
These days are for you but they must be suitable for most, not too expensive, and if fundraising is required we need ideas for things to do the raise the money.
